On our trip through the Catskills our destination was the town of Sharon Springs. It is where the “The Fabulous Beekman Boys” live and own a shop called Beekman 1802. Brent Ridge and Josh Kilmer-Purcell are the Fabulous Beekman Boys from the reality show of the same name and winners of the Amazing Race. Watching on TV and YouTube they are very welcoming people and call everyone who meets them or watches them, their neighbor. So I felt like it would be great to go visit them in Sharon Springs at their store. George and I went to Beekman 1802 and I walked in to be welcomed by Under, Brent and Josh’s dog, so cute. I started to tell the young woman who greeted me, Jessica, about how much I enjoyed the tv show and I suddenly see Brent Ridge walking over to me with a warm smile on his face. Of course, I had to hug him and he hugged me right back, he spent time talking to us.
What a wonderful person Brent is and his shop is beautiful. It is two floors and full of artisanal products. We bought their goat cheese and a new jelly made of roasted sweet pepper and lime. It is great together on crackers! We also bought the Mortgage Lifter extra spicy pasta sauce and their new book called Beekman 1802 Style. It is full of great ideas and advice. Thank you Brent, Jessica and Bridget for the great service and fun time.
Next door to the Beekman 1802 was a quaint little shop called “The Cobbler and Co.” We met Maureen who owns and operates the business. I told Maureen I saw her on TV being interviewed. She had lots of fun items in her store. I bought colorful socks knitted by a local artist and other items as well. A unique thing about Maureen’s store is people have been signing their names on a wall upstairs and it is pretty well filled up. I found a space to add our names.
As we were leaving Sharon Springs, New York, George noticed a sign “hot dogs and cold drinks”. We pulled in and the place was called “Teepee Pete’s Chow Wagon”. Pete and his sisters, Donna and Dale, own the business. Pete runs the chow wagon and his sisters run the teepee store which looks like a teepee from the outside. Pete was on one of the episodes of the “Fabulous Beekman Boys”. He is larger than life and a lot of fun.
Pete made the best chili dogs I have ever eaten, and the hottest chili too. It is so hot he has you sign a book and then you taste the chili and write down your remarks about it. While we were sitting at the picnic table eating our lunch, Pete came out and showed us metal puzzle rings hanging on nails. So we all tried to work them but to no avail. Pete did it in 3 seconds and then showed us how you solve the puzzle. It was a riot, and all the while looking at a breath taking view of the Catskills and tips of the Adirondack Mountains! Wow, I love Sharon Springs!
