I know it has been awhile since I added a new post but I write when it is meaningful to me. We are back in Madison where my daughter Jamie, her husband Andy and their two children, Graham and Alex, our beautiful grandchildren live. I had the honor of caring for the kids when they were born. So of course it has been extremely difficult not seeing them everyday. This is one thing I do not like about our nomadic life!!!! That and the stinking desert we lived in for 5 months, I almost jumped ship because of these two things. But all is well for now because we are in Madison.
The kids bought a new house while we were away, that has a swimming pool, hooray! So lots of meals outside with swimming involved and lunches with our daughter while the kids are still in school.
We even made our way to Knoxville, Iowa for the the sprint car races, and our niece Elizabeth and family live there. We had a picnic lunch at the Marion County Park in Knoxville where we were camping. It was wonderful because my sister-in-laws and brother-in-laws flew up from Wichita, Kansas. Lots of good old fashioned fun, climbing trees and picnicking.
We also, during our way back to Madison stopped in Sergeant Bluff, Iowa to visit my brother and his wonderful family. We had a good time sitting on the front porch drinking and eating pizza! Also got to visit with my mom and see my sweet uncle Freddy.
Family is everything and I am trying to soak up as much as I can before heading out again. We will see how it goes being on the road again.
We are thinking of buying a motorhome and giving up renting. We are retired and it’s time to see more before we get to old. I will be 70 this year, yikes.
Do you have any suggestions about where to look for one? We will have to finance one.
Oh and what is the average cost to have one parked for a month while you are somewhere? Just an average cost? Place with electric, water and dump hookups? Is a tow vehicle something that is a must?
Ron,I would go to rvt.com, RV Traders site. You can use their search feature to find what you are looking for. Costs for sites vary tremendously depending on where they are and the amenities being offered. We split our time between city/county and state parks and boondocking sites on BLM or National Forest Service lands. The boondocking sites are free, but do require the rig to be self sufficient, usually with solar power or a generator. So I would guess we average about 500 a month. We tow a car and I would recommend having something to drive since RVs get terrible mileage, and it’s a pain driving a big vehicle to go sight seeing. I hope you hit the road!
